So far, we’ve only “published” a couple of pieces on the project thus far. Here they are!

Schmidt, Jane. (May 1, 2016). The Trouble With Twee. Open Shelf.

Schmidt, Jane. Little Free Libraries®: The Trouble With Twee Solutions To Big Problems. (invited talk) Disrupt and Transform: The British Columbia Library Conference, 2016. Slides available here.

Where are you in the course of your journey? I hope you’ve discovered the LFLs in Syria and other developing countries as well as the underserved American communities. I hope you have had the opportunity to see that LFLs in no way compete with public libraries (most, probably all, of LFL stewards support them). In Kansas City, MO, we have a great public library system as well as LFLs for community building, education, and opportunity. That’s what it’s all about.

    • Hi Robin, thanks for your comment. Our research is forthcoming – it is undergoing peer review right now. We have taken all of your points into consideration throughout our study of the phenomenon. Ours is an alternative view that diverges from the homogeneous treatment we see in the media. And that’s okay – we can agree to disagree. We just don’t think they are all they are hyped up to be and thought a critical analysis was necessary. When the paper is published, we’ll share it here. Thanks for taking the time to read the blog and hear a different take.
